Welcome to Ilfracombe in Bloom

We were formed in 1987 after the Mayor, Mike Edmunds, arranged a meeting to consider setting up an ‘In Bloom’ group where Margaret Sutcliffe and others were invited to take the project forward. Margaret continued to be involved, as Chairman and later President, until retiring in 2012.

Ilfracombe (www.visitilfracombe.co.uk) is a town of some 12500 people, situated on the north Devon coast, within the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is the major resort town of north Devon, a popular all year round destination. There is much for visitors to see and do: walking, water sports, attractions or just wandering about the town and tasting the fantastic local food on offer. Ilfracombe is a ‘Walkers are Welcome’ town and was named the UK's first ‘Courteous Town’ by the National Campaign for Courtesy.

Lee (www.leebay.co.uk) 2 miles to the west of Ilfracombe, forms part of the West Ward. This picturesque village is situated in a deep ‘combe’ and is often referred to locally as "Fuchsia Valley".

Hele  one mile to the east forms part of the East Ward. The beach is popular with locals and visitors alike. The floral planting around the village is done by members of Hele Residents Association and they enter the South West in Bloom Pennant awards.
